Today, we met with Chris to do some interview in the Mt. Baldy area. An area, Jimmy and I had never been too. This is where the last of our 3 major hikes will be (Icehouse Saddle, Mt. Baden Powell, and of course, Mt. Baldy). We leave LA around 9AM- beautiful, warm 78 degrees and sunny! We take our exit and begin to ascend through the desert mountains, when suddenly we turn a corner and begin to notice that the tops of the mountains are covered in snow. I open my window and the air is getting colder by the minute. Hmmm… snow in May? in LA? okay?
We get to the bottom of the ski lifts and meet up with Chris. I brought my winter jacket as a joke! but it turns out, it wasn’t a joke! Chris wore his shorts! We sit on the icy ski lifts. Our destination, the Ski hut is out of sight covered in fog. Soon we discovered, why it was covered in fog. There was a full out blizzard at the top. How convenient!
We shot our interviews mostly INSIDE the ski hut with whited out windows. We briefly shot Chris in his shorts in the snow and figured out that it wasn’t a good idea for him or our equipment. Nonetheless, it was an adventure! and a very interesting experience. As we descended on the FREEEEEZZZZZZINNNGG ski lifts, we got down to our cars, with our cold wind blown faces. We got some great audio of Chris talking. He’s another great speaker!
We ate at Mt. Baldy lodge where we are going to be having our after hike celebratory dinner!!! Yummy food!
